King Fahad Mosque to like to thank our community and neighbors for the support and love we have received from you all! We have received many letters and gifts from you expressing your solidarity with us during this recent wave of Islamophobia. We can not express our thanks enough to show our appreciation in standing with us during these trying times. One letter that touched us deeply was written by Salma, a hispanic non-muslim girl, and we were driven to tears reading it. Below is the letter retyped in full as well as a scan of the letter. As to Salma, look forward to hearing from us soon!
Hello, my name is Salma. When I was in 7th grade, about 5 years ago, I visited a mosque downtown on a school trip. Everyone was extremely kind and years later it’s still a memory that stays with me. Years later and I can’t believe how ignorant people can be. I’m so sorry about how the media treats you. I’ve read articles of how things such as news and Trump have lead to a rise in hate crime and I’m so sorry. I’m mexican and also have been on the receiving end on Trumps hateful speeches and I can’t fathom how people support such hatred. I wish people would understand that the acts of few do not represent the bigger majority. Islam is a beautiful religion, it’s a wonder how more people don’t realize that.I hope your community is well and safe despite everything. I write to see if there is a way I can repay the kindness shown to me so many years ago. I would love to hear back from you if there is any way if there is anyway I can show support for your community.
Salma
