King Fahad Mosque is proud to partner with Muslim Food Bank of Los Angeles to help feed the poor and needy in our community.
THE MUSLIM FOOD BANK AND ITS MISSION
The Muslim Food Bank of Los Angeles identifies families, irrespective of religion, that are in danger of going hungry and provides them with food each month. “Hunger” is the uneasy or painful sensation caused by lack of food. “Food insecurity” is what leads to hunger. It is the inability to afford safe or appropriate food. King Fahad Mosque is one of the biggest food bank storage and collection area’s for the Muslim food bank of LA. In addition, we work with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and do packing and distribution from King Fahad Mosque to the needy in our community.
PEOPLE IN YOUR COMMUNITY NEED FOOD ASSISTANCE
There are many people in your community that can’t afford food. Many of them feel the pangs of hunger and do not know when their next meal will arrive. In Los Angeles alone there are over a million people for whom this is a real problem.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Wanting to help others is an excellent start. You can donate food to the food bank to distribute. You could also sign up to donate a fixed amount on a monthly basis. The food bank needs more people to donate regularly so it can guarantee a certain number of families will be fed. This organization relies on the people who can commit to monthly or weekly donorship.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WITH AN EMPTY BAG AND THE LIST
You can do your part to end hunger in Los Angles by filling the bag with whatever nonperishable food you are able to provide. You are encouraged to buy food from the shopping list provided. You don’t have to fill up the entire bag nor should you be limited by it. Drop your contributions off at the mosque in food bins at the entrances or in the marked locations by the entrances anytime during the day.
YOUR DONATION IS APPRECIATED
Giving to the needy is an important Islamic duty. Hunger and malnutrition is the world’s number one health risk – greater than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. In California alone, nearly four million people can’t afford food. Statewide, nearly four million Californians experience food insecurity. About 1.1 million adults in L.A. County cannot afford adequate food. There are many more of us who can afford even more food that we need. The Prophet said: The food for two person is sufficient for three, and the food of three is enough for four. Everyone can do their part through the L.A. Muslim Food Bank by donating the specified items on a regular basis. Even giving away a little food every month or week helps to make a positive difference in someone’s life. Let’s end hunger. Donate now.
